About Dr Tom
Dr Tom Cawood Ph.D., M.B.Ch.B.(Hons), B.Sc.(Hons), M.R.C.P.(UK), F.R.A.C.P.(NZ) is a consulting physician and endocrinologist working in the field of thyroid cancer. Dr Cawood gained his medical degree with honours from Glasgow University in Scotland in 1998. He also completed a Bachelor of Science degree with first class honours in pharmacology, and a Ph.D. at University College Dublin (Ireland) looking at thyroid eye disease. He has passed post-graduate medical exams in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand. At 40 years old, Dr Cawood was diagnosed with a serious heart condition requiring open heart surgery. Facing this life changing event brought clarity to the strengths and shortfalls of many medical systems. He has gained empathy for his patients and understands the uncertainty and psychological impact of conditions like thyroid cancer. His ordeal led Dr Cawood and others to establish this website to support people working through the challenges of thyroid cancer. Having worked in many countries, Dr Cawood has settled in the picturesque country of New Zealand in the South Pacific. He enjoys time with family, trout fishing, cycling, carpentry and plays the guitar. |
